Lazy Halloween Post

We have been lazy bloggers lately, it's true. In my defense I am buried right now, so blogging is at the bottom of the list. We listed our home for sale, and as many of you know, it is an intense, time consuming thing, trying to sell a home. I haven't done any Halloween crafts, honestly, sadly, I don't even feel like it is Halloween. That is really sad since Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.

I thought I would share some of our favorite projects from last year, because really that is all I have time to do!

Do you have any Halloween crafts or ideas that are cute and SIMPLE, since I have no time?

One Dollar Wednesday...Wendy Witch

I'm so late posting today! Have you ever had super good intentions of making a FABULOUS something, and when you gave it "your all" it still didn't turn out? Well I found a picture of THE CUTEST Halloween Crows on the Internet. I thought I'd throw something similar together.

After hours and hours and hours of trying, I decided to start over!

This time, I had no idea what I'd put together before I went to the dollar store. I went to "Honks" dollar store, and was inspired to make a witch! Look at all the great stuff I got there...

Well I started by sewing a face into the heel of one of the green socks...

I added eyes and closed the sock up...

I made a wig by wrapping some yarn around a rectangle... my rectangle happens to be a favorite childhood book...Thanks Mom!

Gave that wig a trim...

Sewed some witch clothes and a hat with black felt...

Added a tag, also from the dollar store. (Aren't they CUTE!)

I tied her onto my super cute polka-dot bucket, with lots of tulle, and ended up with this...

I think she'll be adorable holding all our Halloween goodies!

Around the Town Tuesday featuring... A Wild Witchy Weekend

Ohhh what a FUN, fabulous weekend I had! My bestest friends came up to visit for a Wild Witchy Weekend. We all got dressed up as witches, and joined HUNDREDS of other witches at Gardner Village.

We saw the CUTEST decorative items...

We made lots of new witch friends...

We even happened upon a few FAMOUS WITCHES...

There were Goblins and Ghouls too...

I think we'll have to make this "WITCH~FEST" and annual tradition!

Curious Pumpkin Cake: Weekend Website

Have you seen this cute pumpkin cake yet? Amanda over at i am baker, is an amazing baker, and an amazing mommy. She is constantly coming up with cakes, cookies, and other fun creations for her kids. She was having so much fun baking that she decided to dedicate a blog to her fantastic concoctions. While you are over there you must check out her rainbow cake, I LOVE it, I was a big Rainbow Brite fan as a kid, and would have gone crazy for that cake.

If you think that the cake above is your average, cute, jack-o-lantern cake, then you would only be half right. He is far from average, he has a secret, a surprise for you! Check out his surprise HERE, I am in awe of how talented she is.

Have a wonderful fall weekend!

~One Dollar Wednesday~ BOO decor

Welcome to One Dollar Wednesday! This week I'm going to show you how I threw together this little ditty...

I found this old black candle holder at the DI, that's right a mere 75 cents, and I was off and running.

After a quick primer and paint job...blackety black...it was looking a lot more usable. I took a trip to good old Dollar Tree, and picked up three glass votive holders. I filled them with all this Halloween goodness...

I think Halloween M & M's would have been adorable too, but M & M's do not last at this homestead.

I visited this TO DIE FOR site and printed myself a BOO!

I printed my BOO on orange paper, and cut around the curved lines. I thought I'd add a little more UMPH, so I traced out some circles on some polky dotty paper. I glued my BOO to my circles, and added my spray painted skewers...

Notice that the BOO has been moved to a higher location... must keep little hands away from breakables!

Have a WoNdErFuL Wednesday!

Halloween Cloche

Remember this Graveyard Scene displayed beneath a cloche on my entry table? Did you know that this very scene cost me just $2.50.

My cloche is nothing more than a vase that I found at my local thrift store. That's right, I picked up this beauty for $1.50 and it even came with a schnazzy green ribbon. ( I LOVE a good deal)

I didn't have anything to display beneath the cloche, so I took a trip to Dollar Tree. They have lots of cute graveyard resin pieces. I didn't have a base for my cloche to rest on, so I scoured my mom's house. She didn't have anything that fit perfectly, except this...

A DIXIE plate worked beautifully for the base, and all it needed was a quick coat of black spray paint.

I tied a pretty ribbon to the top of my cloche and it was good to go. I filled the inside with some Halloween beads that my mom had, but I think Halloween colored candies would be really cute too.

The final product was just what I was hoping for.

Easy Halloween Dinner Ideas

In our home it is a tradition every year to have a Halloween dinner. A few years ago, while waiting in line at the grocery store, I was glancing through the Halloween issue of the Pillsbury magazine. I was hooked and had to buy it, and decided to start out with some of the easy creations.

Scary Tacos are easy and fun! Just make taco meat, cut slices of cheese to look like teeth, slit the back of green olives to attach the eyes, cut slices of Roma tomatoes for tongues, and you are all set for a spooky meal!

Bread stick ghosts are a cinch to make. Buy the Pillsbury crescent roll dough, sprinkle on some mozzarella cheese, and then use sliced olives for eyes and mouths. Bake according to the dough's directions.

Creepy olive bugs are quick and fun. Use a toothpick to hold the olives together and poke in some Rosemary for the legs.

Last, but not least, one of my FAVORITE treats, a pumpkin cheese ball.

I got the recipe for this delicious cheese ball out of a Taste of Home Halloween magazine. I have used it for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, it works well for all the fall holidays and it is so yummy! The recipe actually came from Suzanne Cleveland of Georgia. It doesn’t taste like pumpkin at all, it just looks like one.

Pumpkin Cheese Ball

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

1 carton (8 ounces) spreadable chive & onion cream cheese

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 TSP paprika

½ TSP cayenne pepper

1 leafy celery rib for a stem

Assorted crackers and sliced apples

In a small bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Stir in the sharp cheddar cheese, paprika, and cayenne. Shape into a ball; wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 4 hours or until firm.

With a knife, add vertical lines to the cheese ball to resemble a pumpkin; insert celery rib for a stem. Serve with crackers and apples.

Check out some of the other funny scary recipes from Pillsbury HERE and Taste of Home HERE.

One Dollar Wednesday~ Halloween Pedestal

Okay my title, a little lame since "One" doesn't start with a "W". It does have a ring to it though, so I'm sticking with it...for awhile at least. I'd like to start featuring my Dollar Store crafts on Wednesdays. Hence my title.

My "One Dollar Wednesday" craft today is my Halloween Pedestal. You might remember this pedestal....

Did you know that I made it from these Dollar Tree items....

I'll show you how.

I popped open my package of "Dollar Tree" burner covers and sent them straight away to my Spray Paint Place.

After 2 coats of primer, and 3 coats of Halloweeny orange, and some sanding away of drippy places, I was HAPPY!

While the "plate" part of my pedestal dried, I gave my candle sticks a couple coats of primer and paint. Then I added purple polka-dots to them...

I added a "paper pennant" border all the way around.

A BIG glob of hot glue to hold all the pieces together.

They can be used stacked...

and seperate...
